Although a top destination for year-round activities, the bustle of Napa Valley is in full force come summertime. The sun is shining, the vineyards are thriving, and the rosé is flowing. Here are five things to do in Napa Valley this summer.
The Napa Winery Inn features a heated swimming pool and separate whirlpool spa in our outdoor courtyard, but if you are looking for a little al naturale swimming, Napa Valley has plenty of destinations nearby. Visit the Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Geyserville for a day of swimming and sipping. Try the 3-acre swimming lagoon that is Spring Lake in Santa Rosa, or Napa Valley’s dog-friendly Acorn Beach at Lake Berryessa for a refreshing dip.
Summer in Napa is synonymous with Rosé season. Check out our latest post, The Best Napa Valley Rosé Wines to Sip This Summer, for an excellent guide on where to find this season’s best fruity, florally libations.
Napa has its share of beautiful tasting rooms, but the blue skies and warm weather will leave you itching for the outdoors. Take a glass of your favorite vino outside on a winery patio to sip in the sunshine. Visit Round Pond Estate’s patio for wines paired with small bites, Duckhorn Vineyards’ patio which overlooks the estate vineyards and duck-inspired garden artwork, or Mumm Napa in Rutherford for the official sparkling wine of the San Francisco Giants.
Each summer, the town of Calistoga puts on a free concert series in Pioneer Park with musical performances scheduled every Thursday night. Bring a blanket and pack a picnic to enjoy the live music under the Napa sky. A local winery is featured each week (with wines available for purchase), but those 21 and over are also permitted to bring outside alcoholic beverages. For more information and a concert lineup, go to Visit Calistoga.
The Valley has far more to offer than fine dining and wine. Take a day to trek Napa Valley’s rolling hillside. Try the easy Lake Hennessey Loop, or the more moderate Table Rock Trail, which passes a stream and rock labyrinth. For a challenge, try the Mount Saint Helena Trail, a 9-mile summit hike that offers sweeping vineyard views of the valley.
